Mathematics Education at ENS Paris-Saclay
Students in the program are encouraged to study a broad spectrum of mathematics, ranging from numerical and computational topics to geometry, including probability, statistics, PDEs, algebra, analysis, and topology, and to explore the applications of mathematics to other fields. This program is essentially divided into two tracks with different entry points.
1/ Training Program for Teacher Training College Students
The École Normale program leads to the ENS Paris-Saclay degree.
Students in the program are encouraged to study a broad spectrum of mathematics, ranging from numerical and computational topics to geometry, including probability, statistics, PDEs, algebra, analysis, and topology,
and to explore the applications of mathematics to other fields.
This program is essentially divided into two tracks with different entry points.
In the first year: a Bachelor’s degree (L3)
Starting in the first year, you will interact with researchers and faculty members who are also researchers:
- Courses offered in Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics (L3) in partnership with Paris-Saclay University
- The Research Overview
- introductory research internship at the Centre Borelli laboratory at the beginning of the second semester, on a part-time basis.
In the second year: a Master’s 1 year
During this intensive year of study, you will:
- Enroll in the Master’s 1 (M1) Hadamard in partnership with École Polytechnique and Paris-Saclay University;
- Complete a 3.5-month internship in a public or private research laboratory, in France or abroad, to gain an inside look at research activities;
- Define your career plan with an academic advisor.
In the third and fourth years
You must complete the following over these two years:
- A Master’s 2 year (not necessarily at the ENS or the University of Paris-Saclay);
- A customized year: this can be a year at the interfaces, a year leading to a specific degree from the School (ARIA, ARRC, ARTeQ, AReCO, etc.), a full year of study dedicated to work in an academic research laboratory abroad (ARPE Year), or even a year of preparation for the mathematics agrégation exam.
Visit the School’s website for all specific-year tracks.
2/ Customized Training Programs
The Department of Mathematics offers specialized programs in applied mathematics open to students from outside the School.
These Master’s 2 programs in “Mathematics and Applications” are offered by ENS Paris-Saclay and Paris-Saclay University.
Preparation for the Mathematics Agrégation
This degree program is part of a Master 2 in Higher Education Training.
See the application guidelines.
The Master 2 in Research: Mathematics, Vision, Learning (MVA)
It is taught in French and English and is open to international students.
See the application guidelines.
Master 2: Modeling and Simulation with High-Performance Computing
This program is taught in French and is open to international students.
